"We are please to invite you to participate in the twenty-first International Police Executive Symposium (IPES) being held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 5-10 August 2012.  The Symposium is the IPES main annual event and is being held in cooperation with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs NGO Branch.  The five days will be devoted to presentations and discussions pertaining to the priority theme of the Symposium is 'Economic Development, Armed Violence and Public Safety'.  There are also five sub-themes:

1. Policing, public safety and the role of civil society

2. Sustainable security in developed and developing nations

3. Police and NGOs: a practical research relationship

4. Social conditions and crime

5. Addressing gender and youth violence in society

As the sub-themes are not limited, if you would like to propose a further topic, please contact the Program Chair at the email below.  Or if you would like to participate as a member of a panel or roundtable please also feel free to contact the Program Chair.

Each year, the Symposium attracts practitioners, academics and researchers from around the world who are interested in policing and related issues.

I have attached a flyer for the Symposium for your information.  The Registration Fee covers all meals, accommodation in a 5* Hilton Hotel next to the United Nations, entertainment and sightseeing, limited internal transport and a year's free subscription to the Police Practice and Research: An International Journal, PPR, (6 issues annually), as well as post and pre-conference stay at the Hilton Manhattan at a discounted price.  This Hotel across the road of the United Nations complex and very close to Times Square, Sears Tower, and Grand Central Station.

However, the IPES does not facilitate arrangements, or pay for any costs, such as travel, visa or accommodation expenses, for presenters or panel participants.  Further information in regard to the Symposium registration, accommodation and meals can be found at http://www.ipes.info/.

Symposium participates are encouraged to present a paper but this is not a requirement.

The IPES Symposium proceedings will be published as a book and some papers will be published in special edition of the Police: Practice and Research: An International Journal.

I am contacting you to offer an invitation to you to participate or present at the Symposium as a speaker or to lead or be a member of a panel or a roundtable on any of the sub-themes or a closely related topic.

Please be aware of these upcoming key dates:

Abstract Submission: Before 28 February 2012

Full Paper Submission: Before 1 May 2012

Paper Acceptance: Before 15 May 2012
